The first time I trained less—but felt better.

At one point, I genuinely thought I was losing my edge because I was training less.
However, what changed wasn’t my discipline—it was my approach.
Instead of grinding through long sessions, I shifted to fewer workouts with shorter durations.
At the same time, I added more recovery, which initially felt uncomfortable.
Yet, as weeks passed, something unexpected happened.

Why Doing Less Started Working Better

Surprisingly, I began feeling better instead of worse.
Moreover, I felt stronger and more capable in my actual, day-to-day life.
Because my workouts no longer drained me, I had more energy for work.
Likewise, I noticed more patience at home, even after long days.
Most importantly, my body stopped feeling like something I had to fight against.

As a result, I realized that constant soreness isn’t a badge of honor.
Instead, it’s often a signal that something needs to change.
Therefore, recovery stopped being an afterthought and became part of the plan.

The Shift That Changed Everything

Eventually, it clicked—training isn’t about doing more.
Rather, it’s about doing what your life can actually sustain.
While high-volume training may work in your 20s, it often backfires later on.
Consequently, smarter programming becomes more important than sheer effort.

According to the Mayo Clinic, recovery and consistency play a bigger role as we age.
Because your body changes over time, your training should evolve as well.
In other words, progress after 40 is built through balance, not punishment.

Why This Matters If You’re Over 40

If you’re over 40 and feel like your body is asking for a different approach, you’re probably not wrong.
In fact, that feeling is often a sign of awareness, not weakness.
When you listen to those signals, you reduce injury risk and improve long-term results.
Meanwhile, you also gain the freedom to enjoy life outside the gym.

Additionally, sustainable training helps you stay consistent year after year.
As a result, fitness becomes something that supports your life instead of competing with it.

You Don’t Have to Figure It Out Alone

Although change can feel overwhelming, you don’t have to navigate it by yourself.
That’s why I help clients build routines that match their goals, schedules, and recovery needs.
